The Holy Spirit References to the Holy Spirit occur frequently and with considerable evenness across the entire Book of Acts. Of the almost sixty occurrences, one tenth are in the Pentecost narrative, and there are clusters of occurrences in chapter 8 (Samaria and Simon the Sorcerer) and in chapters 10 and 11 (the conversion of Cornelius). There are no references to the Spirit in chapters 3, 12, 18, or in Paul’s trial defenses. In only one instance Luke uses the phrase “Spirit of Jesus” (16:7).
